DescriptionThe VAPOPHONE is used to detect steam leakage in steamsystems in order to prevent live steam loss. It is particularlysuitable for monitoring steam traps and stop valves.Live steam leakage is detected by sound in the ultrasonicrange caused by flowing steam. The mechanical ultrasonicvibrations are detected by the sound probe of the VAPOPHONEand converted into electric signals which are amplified in themeasuring instrument and indicated on a meter.Owing to mechanical and electronic filtering, the VAPOPHONEis most sensitive at frequencies between 40 to 60 kHz. Aslong as the steam trap operates correctly or the stop valveis closed tight the pointer on the meter will be close to zero.When steam loss occurs the pointer deflects in proportionto the steam leakage.The VAPOPHONE is unaffected by ambient noise in theaudible range. The power supply is provided by an integralrechargeable battery.
